Anti-Virus and Spyware10/16/07 - (Cnetnews.com) - It has been found that 81% of home pc users lack at least 1 of 3 critical types of security, a firewall, updated antivirus software or anti-spyware protection. Of these people 56% had NO antivirus software, or had not updated within a week, 44% did not have a firewall properly configured. 38% lacked spyware protection. In a study of 329 internet users surveyed in 12 states, 77% believed their computers were safe from online threats and most had no firewall protection, and did not update antivirus software. Four in five users had spyware or adware on their computers, and 89% of those infected did not know they were infected. The report also showed over 50% of those surveyed did'nt know the difference in anti-virus software and a firewall and 90% did not know what spyware was.
